Copyright? Why do I care about copyright?
How does copyright affect me?
Why is it illegal to copy music and
movies? Why do some people think this is a question of ethics and values?
These are just a few of the big questions
students frequently ask about the concept of copyright law. The goal of this
Web Quest is to help you explore the answers to these and other questions you
may have about copyright, as well as to deepen your understanding of its many
complex aspects.
After completing the process, you will have the understanding you need to form your own opinions and join the latest debate about copyright law. Specifically, you will use what you learn as a springboard for discussion in class.
1. Your task is to find the answers to the questions on the handout. Take notes on what you find on the handout.
2. When you have completed the handout go ahead and test your knowledge on the Copyright Quiz.
3. Questions from the Copyright Quiz will appear on your quarterly exam.
Your grade for this activity will be based on completion of the handout and appropriate use of research time.
Now that you have explored some of the ideas and concepts of copyright, you are ready to reflect on your own beliefs and understandings. Did anything you read challenge what you believed? What opinions have you formed? How will what you read change your behavior or way of thinking? Is it ethical to knowingly violate copyright law?
